The Accounting Analyst II will report to the Finance Governance accounting manager and will experience career growth opportunities and diversity through regular interactions with business partners, internal and external auditors as well as senior management.

This is the third level of the financial analysis classification hierarchy.  Employees at this level solve more complex problems, in financial areas of specialization, with moderate guidance and direction.  Employees are building their knowledge of the organization, processes and customers.  Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence.

Responsibilities

  • The Accounting Analyst II position ensures governance for the company’s internal control compliance program through various methods including reviews of internal processes, systems and policies.
  • Foster customer relationships with business units and corporate areas through the performance of risk assessments, internal control environment consultations and risk exposure evaluations.
  • Annual participation in the internal control planning process, risk assessments and evaluation of internal controls selected for testing.
  • Maintain knowledge of financial policies as well as key involvement with policy updates.
  • Communication of internal control assessments with auditors and senior management.
  • Perform and evaluate root cause analyses and assess the adequacy of remediation for internal controls.
  • Participate in the planning and training of business partners to enhance their understanding of timelines, responsibilities and process changes.
  • Support a continuous improvement discipline that engages employees to create sustainable efficiencies and value to increase productivity and cost optimization.
  • Support annual financial statement filings including control testing, certifications, year-end assertions and internal and external representation letters.

Required/Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline
  • Two (2) or more years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
  • Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, HFM, PowerPlan, etc.) and query tool (WebI)
  • Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point

Desired Qualifications

  • CPA or working toward CPA
  • Advanced degree, preferably in Accounting
  • Four (4) or more years of professional work-related experience
  • Proficient using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Experience with financial reporting (SEC/GAAP/FERC)
  • Previous experience in utility, utility asset or regulatory accounting environment
  • Experience with internal control compliance within the COSO Framework
  • Knowledge of SEC rules and regulations
  • Effective written and oral communication and collaboration skills
  • Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills – including data analytics
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively perform at the experienced analyst level, including ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and adhere to strict deadlines and schedules
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and foster good relationships with teammates and business partners
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to efficiently multi-task within tight deadlines

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
