POSTPONED: Accounting & Tax Ethics in an Era of Change, Confusion, and Conflicting Duties
THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED. THE RESCHEDULED DATE WILL BE DETERMINED AND ANNOUNCED AT A LATER DATE.
Join us for a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) session hosted by KPMG! Ethics has been defined as “doing the right thing.” Determining what is “right,” however, is not always easy or clear. The challenge may be especially pronounced for accountants who are often faced with unclear or changing situations and who are not only bound by their own personal moral code, but also by specific rules adopted by their profession (and, in some cases, statutory or regulatory mandates). This event will provide participants with an understanding of applicable rules of professional responsibility affecting accounting and tax professionals, including the AICPA’s Code of Professional Conduct and Statements on Standards of Tax Practice, ABA Model Rules and Ethical Opinions, and Treasury Department’s Circular 230; include a discussion of social science research relating to ethics and numerous examples highlighting some of the challenges faced by accounting and tax professionals; and address strategies and processes by which a professional can “give voice to values” and act accordingly in fraught situations.
